The basic materials of my papier mâché sculptures are glue and scrap paper twisted over wire contours. The use of recycled materials in my work
mimics nature’s cycles.  In traditional papier mâché sculpture, the inner paper-and-glue substance is hidden beneath plaster and/or paint. In my
work, I want to explore what is beneath the surface, not gloss it over.  I intentionally feature, rather than conceal, the underlying materials of which my
sculptures are composed.

For me, art is both an act of creation and a therapeutic exercise.  My sculptures incorporate themes such as the preciousness of life, the transience
of happiness and health, the tragedy and humor in the human condition, the fragility of relationships, and the many, unexpected sources of wisdom.
I often portray amalgamations of plants, animals, and people in my sculptures--a melding of species that represents our rootedness in the natural
world and our kinship with all of its living and nonliving elements.
