BECKY HYBERGER
A fascination with the creative process, a passionate interest in the language of dreams, and a degree in psychology are the underpinnings of my
work.  Remembering and writing down dreams has given me the opportunity to make personal discoveries and appreciate the nature of metaphor.
My art is an evolving series of related constructions that illuminate transformation.

Sometimes my emphasis is on the object being created . . . the miniature.  Other times, it is on the idea or thing the object represents . . . the
metaphor.  When making the work, my focus continually shifts between the details and the bigger picture.

In miniatures, as in life and dreams, everything has the potential to become something else.  From beads to bottles, earrings to faucets, and tins to
suitcases nothing is as it seems.

The Black Box (images below) is an ongoing series of miniature constructions exploring the psychological affects of childhood sexual trauma. Often
it takes a lifetime of remembering to overcome.
The Black Box symbolically holds the original memory and all the other work in the series radiates
from this piece.
The Secret illustrates a pattern of deception evolving over a lifetime. The Sanctuary is a "safe place" or vestibule in the mind
between the exterior persona and the deeper interior. State of Mind shows how the psychological life is ordered around the traumatic event.
