MIRA MICKLER MOSS
The foundation for my art is deeply rooted in my respect and admiration for nature's element of design; woody textures, varied mottling, and natural
forms and shapes where I cannot dictate the end result, but rather accept the gourd as my guide to its individual outcome.

Initiating with the planting of the seedling following a journey of nurturing, shaping, and harvesting the organic vessel is my connection, always in a
state of interdependence.  With all its frailities, I am forced to let go of my perception of "the ultimate piece" that is unable to cure due to lack of
maturity or conditions, and left with an element of surprise and challenge:  a thin skin, a thick core, a vulnerable spot of weakness, or an unforseen
beauty that is brought to the surface upon contact with another substance.

Peeling the transluscent layers of the outer skin to scraping the fibrous core, I am involved in a process of exploration of natural form, shape and
color.  Through experimentation and manipulation, impondered with inherent qualities of texture, an intuition or inspiration manifests into what
seems appropriate for the shape of the vessel.

My work has been exhibited from metropolitan galleries and exhibits to smaller art meccas and included in many private collections along the
journey.
